From August 5 to August 19, Dr. Thawhid Khan from the University of Sheffield stayed in our laboratory.
Dr. Thawhid serves as the U.K. principal investigator in the Japan–U.K. Bilateral Joint Research Project between JSPS and The Royal Society, titled “The effect of advanced multilayer coatings on tribological and tribofilm formation b ehaviours with stray AC currents within electric vehicle (EV) transmission systems,” for which Dr. Hirata is the Japanese principal investigator.
During his stay, we held a research presentation by Dr. Thawhid, a technical exchange meeting, and our laboratory’s annual zaru-soba party. As in previous years, the dipping sauce for the soba was handmade by Researcher Kano.

Despite the record-breaking heat in stark contrast to the U.K., we wish Dr. Thawhid a pleasant and enjoyable stay in Japan.
