From August 3 to 4, MISW 2026 – The 17th Multidisciplinary International Student Workshop was held at the Ookayama Campus.MISW is an international student workshop primarily for graduate students from universities belonging to the Asia Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE). The workshop aims to foster innovation across disciplinary boundaries through research presentations and to promote mutual understanding among students from different cultural backgrounds. Participants are expected to give oral presentations in English on their own research or related topics, as well as attend all sessions throughout the workshop. The workshop provides opportunities for active discussions and exchanges of ideas while exposing participants to research from a wide range of disciplines. In addition to the research presentations, various activities, including games and a banquet, were organized to encourage interaction among the participants.

Three Ph.D. candidates from our laboratory, Gao, Kondo, and Zhou, participated in the workshop and gave oral presentations on their respective research projects. For all three students, this was their first experience presenting their research in English at an international workshop. Nevertheless, they delivered confident presentations and actively engaged in the Q&A sessions. Presenting their research in English to researchers and students from different fields and receiving a wide range of questions and comments provided them with a valuable opportunity to reconsider their research from broader perspectives.

We hope that the experience gained through participation in MISW 2026 will contribute to the further development of their research and encourage continued international research exchange.

Zhou Sicheng’s oral presentation was highly evaluated, and he has been selected to participate in a workshop to be held at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand in December.
